It’s that Italian beer company again (Birrificio) with a confusing note on the bottle about a 16.5% portion of the beer having been in a scotch whiskey barrel, and NOT a 16.5% abv. The abv is for this 11.2oz bottle is 7%. Be careful with this one, there is silt in this bottle (yeast). Proper pouring techniques should be utilized, which may be difficult if you’ve been drinking. Tart. I taste scotch. This beer brings back memories of something. Oh my, this is sour! I once bought some peated scotch from this fancy Vom Fass place for like $30 for a 2 oz fancy looking, tall and pointy, bottle. It wasn’t worth it, and this beer reminds me of it for both the taste and price (an expensive $12.99 for one 11.2 oz bottle). The smell and taste do not seem to match up. The taste of peat is subtle enough to keep you sipping. Definitely related to everything Birrificio (which always come in those funny looking bottles shown above), even for those only slightly familiar with their product. Tastes in order of appearance on my palate: Sour, scotch, barrel, light peat smoke, musty basement. Scores of 1, 2, or 3 = Bad. Scores of 5, 6, or 7 = Good. Overall score for Brett Peat = 4.
Brewer | Birrificio Del Ducato |
Beer Name | Brett Peat Daydream |
Brewer’s Description | In the glass, the nose and the palate… This Smoked Sour beer has an intense golden color with opalescent reflections. The foam is abundant, of fine texture and color cream. The aroma is unsettling, intense and pronounced: clear presence of smoked malts and obvious notes of straw and peat fires. The sour note Brett is manifested in a delicate and progressive with freshness and citricità unmistakable. At first sip jumps to tongue the pleasant tingling of spontaneous fermentation, which after a while gives way to a smoky dryness and savory. A medium body and consistent, bitter phenolic and slightly astringent that detects the presence of Brettanomiceto. A succession of contrasts that come together in a synergistic and elegant balance. |
