5 Rabbit Brewery – 5 Vulture – 2* out of 7 (not a smokebeer)

So, to start this one off, please note this beer is NOT A SMOKEBEER, and therefore should not be judged against other smokebeers. Therefore this review uses the same metrics, but gives the overall score as if it were a recommendation for any friend or foe, looking for some advice on which beer to buy.

I didn’t know Bedford Park was a hotbed for Oaxacan style beer (pronounced Wuh-hah-khan). Didn’t know Oaxaca was a hotbed for beer, or even had a style. I also didn’t think  the term “mulato” was a PC term. I heard somewhere that it referenced the word mule. Nonetheless, 5 Vultures brewed with ancho and mulato chilies are not smoked chilies like chipotle peppers (smoked jalapenos), and therefore should not be viewed in kind. Regardless, this bitter, bland, watery mixture that stings my tongue doesn’t bring me any closer to the water into wine epiphany that the minsters of SmokeBeerMinistry are searching for. Other notable flavors pulled out includes stale beer from a southern Tennessee pool hall, DUIs, and desperation. I drink plenty of non-smoked beer, I know good beer, and I don’t like this beer. Final score: 2 out of 7 non smokebeer smokestacks.
