First off, let me point out the difference that lighting can make the beer color appear, so please forgive my lack of skill in setting the aperture and shutter speed on my *iPhone®. This beer’s color is about as light as these smokers get, rated at a generous 2, which is generous regardless of the photographic evidence before you. As far as I’m concerned, the smokebeer scale is different from all other scales whether it be color, smell, effervescence, flavor, or what have you. And given the light rankings across the spectrum, this beer has got to be a Gratzer (update: further research showed that this beer is considered a Lichtenhainer). Smokepower smell and taste come in ranking a 1 and 2 respectively, however the sour metric (not noted on the chart below) ranks in at a full 7 out of 7… its as sour as ‘all get out’. Sour is fine with me, no point deduction for that, in fact, the overall happiness score for this beer will be boosted due to how unusual it is. It’s safe for me to say I like it because of its interesting taste, but also because I got this one from Ireland (purchased, not produced) and I like finding smokebeers in all the corners of the earth. It’s also available in the US, but you’re gonna hafta look up where you gotta go to get this one. This beer takes a different path to get to the finish line. Final score 4.5 out of 7.
