Brasserie La Baleine – La Gitane – 6 out of 7

This beer tastes great! I got this one in France with cautious optimism considering that the French aren’t known for their beer, furthermore, I don’t believe I’ve ever even had a French beer. Imagine my surprise when the deep woods German campfire smell stood out above all other smells in this incredible beer, which gets better and better after each sip (monster chug). Contrary to the brewers description, I don’t detect the soft peaty amplitude in the mouth at all. Maybe I don’t have a firm grasp on what the French consider soft amplitude, but I thankfully don’t taste it in the beer. If anything has a soft amplitude its the quickly fizzled head noticeably absent in the picture above although there was still plenty of carbonation packed inside. I have to admit, lackthereof didn’t detract from the experience at all. One thing that added to the experience is the simple fact of this beer’s French origin, so unexpectedly good. La Gitane marks a bold 6 out of 7 smokestacks. I can’t wait to go back to Paris to drink this one again. Brasserie La Baleine, Touche!
