Brauerei Göller – Göller Rauchbier – 6.2 out of 7 smokestacks

We got a good one here! Bamberg smoke punches you in the nose right off the bat. The color is the Goldilocks hue, not too light, not too dark (although the picture is a bit deceiving due to some lighting issues in the tabernacle), just dark enough to let you know it’s a real beer, but not so dark that it scares away any customers. The flavor comes off a little “not too flavorful” but not too watery either. With this beer being from Germany I wonder why can’t we do this in the States? A few have done really well, like O’Fallon SMOKE and Alaska Smoked Porter, but its all too rare. An un-ordained Ministry official takes issue with the brewers “subtly smokey” description stating “I could chew it at the end.” While I see their point that the smoke power is beyond subtle, I can hardly chew it, and who cares anyway, their opinion doesn’t count until the full on ceremony is conducted which might have to get postponed with outbursts like that. Final Score – 6.2 Smokestacks of happiness on a 7 point scale of smokestacks.
