We got a good one here! Bamberg smoke punches you in the nose right off the bat. The color is the Goldilocks hue, not too light, not too dark (although the picture is a bit deceiving due to some lighting issues in the tabernacle), just dark enough to let you know it’s a real beer, but not so dark that it scares away any customers. The flavor comes off a little “not too flavorful” but not too watery either. With this beer being from Germany I wonder why can’t we do this in the States? A few have done really well, like O’Fallon SMOKE and Alaska Smoked Porter, but its all too rare. An un-ordained Ministry official takes issue with the brewers “subtly smokey” description stating “I could chew it at the end.” While I see their point that the smoke power is beyond subtle, I can hardly chew it, and who cares anyway, their opinion doesn’t count until the full on ceremony is conducted which might have to get postponed with outbursts like that.
