So they named their company Young Blood? At least they had the sense to not print the word blood on the front of the label. YB Beer company is better. Maybe change the name to Young Bold? Well young bloods, thank you for making me a smoked beer. I like the term perpetually electrified printed on the front. Is Perpetually Electrified the name of this beer? and Porter with smoked beechwood is a descriptor? and Smoked Porter up at the top is a bold and concise descriptor?… That’s enough about what I’ve read on the can.
This Smoked Porter is just fine. On the nose you’ll pull in notes of great beer; Great beers like the dark stuff from Founders, or Bells Black Note Stout, seem to share a lot in common with the scents, but that’s about where it ends. The taste comes off burnt, and not smoked. I don’t think they’re hiding anything by doubling up a bunch of flavors, but how would we know? Actually, they are hiding the 8.1% abv in these flavors, which is a good thing in my opinion. But I have to call the flavors in this one muddled. I look forward to other stuff out of YB brewing. If you only knew what I went through to get this beer. That’s a story for another time, feel free to ask about it… it involves Phil Collins, Awe, I’m rambling now. Overall Smokestacks = 4 smokestacks.
