This recipe does not work. I know this without even tasting this beer because Mob Craft emailed me, and every other customer of this beer, and told us to dump this beer out or else it may explode. Apparently, this beer was exploding on people, and being the good corporate citizen that brewers are, Mob Craft issued a recall and said they were going to make it up to us with free future beer… I’ll have you know, however, they didn’t make it up with me. I followed up with them and their email / respond request, and they never returned my messages. I’ll let them off the hook this time, I mean who knows, they may be tied up in court paying for this debacle. This raises a question; If Mob Craft can’t even control a beer’s explosive nature, how well are they going to control the taste?

Well, let me tell you about the explosive nature. I went ahead and opened one as soon as I got the news and watched this foam over and out of the bottle; gushing over the top for several minutes. Then as I poured it into a glass, the real mess started, foam for days I tell you! Eventually, I got to taste it’s strong sweet metallic taste. It was like Kool-Aid flavored with a jar full of pennies. Taste has a hint of smoke, overpowered with sweet metallic syrup. This beer is too sweet. Its not as good as I was expecting… I’m ending the taste portion of this review right here. If you can find this beer out there nowadays, go ahead and skip this one.

Good things to say about Mob Craft: 1) Creative business model 2) Democratically selected beers brewed 3) Challenging brews 4) Displayed the word “smoked” on the label 5) Honesty (regardless of follow through)

These good things do not add up to a passing grade for this Maple Exploder beer. Final score includes one extra point for sending out that email: 1.9 out of 7 smokestacks.
