“My mouth just took a detour to flavor country,” which was somebody quoting something (probably Ted quoting The Simpsons) during a Ministry tasting. Purists might not consider this a smokebeer, but in the brewers description they have included the term “smoky finish” so it made it into a tasting and into the tabernacle. Brewer’s description = Verbose = forgiven (we are on WordPress after all). Dark Truth Stout holds a pleasant fruity smell, almost tiptoeing around and tricking one into taking the tiniest of sips, only to reveal an acid trip of the beer world, unlocking doors and opening chambers of euphoric flavor with, just as the description states, a smoky finish. Another great example of a beer that does not rank high in smokepower smell (1 out of 7) or smokepower taste (1 out of 7), but still comes away with a very positive review from The Ministry. Final Happiness Factor: 6 Smokestacks.

Brewer’s Description | Throughout the ages, man has been fascinated by the quest for hidden knowledge, the search for the secret to transforming the elemental into the extraordinary, the simple into the sublime. Ladies and gentlemen, we present for your consideration this exotic, inky concoction, the almost magical creation of our modern day alchemists who have turned humble grains—barley, wheat, rye, and oats—into black, liquid gold. Layers of complex flavors slowly emerge from the glass: espresso, roasted fig, crème brulée. Belgian yeast provides a plum-like fruitiness, noble German hops reveal spicy, herbal notes, while the rich, velvety feel mellows to a dry, smoky finish. |
