I remember this one. And I cannot believe that I liked the smoked pumpkin beer more than this beer which I had on the same day. The Tap House in Chattanooga, TN seems to be on the right track with two distinctly different smoked beers available for The Ministry to throw back, on a day that civil war reenactors exchanged cannon reports (without the cannon balls) between the top of Lookout Mountain and the bottom, way way down, in front of that mental hospital at the bend in the river (serenity now). It was too good of a day where Papaw and the baby, and the baby’s parents, all went out on an adventure without incident. And then this beer tasting on the jaunt back into town came as quite the refuge from all the excitement. Peppersprout – Smoked Porter with Roasted Jalapenos by Half Baked Brewing of Hendersonville, TN has promise, but not without criticism. What’s in this beer? Pepper? Chipotle? I can’t tell; I didn’t have a description at the time, and in fact, I still don’t have a description, just a longer version of the name. And at the table, a green horn Ministry official stated, “I’ve had better” and “This gives me indigestion.” But I have taught him well, because these are my thoughts too. This beer has just enough heat to the spice to make me want to drink more, more of a different beer. The Tap House Chattanooga takes the prize on this day. Better luck next time Half Baked.
