Port Huron Brewery of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin produced this here $1M Smoked Maibock in a bottle, which I’ve had on tap in the past, but had to test this bottle out for some reason. This beer smells like a four dollar smoked maibock, not quite a million. Maibocks are stronger lager beers, German in origin, and on the pale side of a regular bock beer. This one, however, is a bit off the maibock mark that Wikipedia suggests. This beer also smells of notes of something I call “brand new brewery and/or unrefined brewing processes still working on tightening it all up and serving our community top notch shit, but at least we have all the necessary equipment” smell (which sounds better if you say it real fast). Smoke smell from this beer dissipates a bit over the life of this beer, which is about 10 minutes, but the taste seems to have some staying power. Carbonation is a bit on the light side and after the thick head settled down, there was hardly any bubbles left, which is another newbie trademark. It still tastes fine though. Malt, warm grape nuts, and caramel flavors, moderate smoke, and more notes and flavors of factory floor in the new brewery, which ain’t that bad. So, ahh… it’s late here. This beer is OK. I don’t want to say more things. Final smoke metric = 4 smokestacks.
