One of the Rs stands for Root Beer, and the second R, well, if you can get anything out of this other than root beer, hats off to you. Its a blend of rauchbier and root beer, however, the root beer is so overpowering that you’ll strain to taste anything else. Dovetail’s 3rd entrant into SBM Tabernacle Takeover month is with a beer called R&R. You may be familiar with shandy’s, a kind of beer that is basically some kind of beer (usually light in nature) mixed (usually 50/50) with something refreshing like a lemon-lime soda or ginger beer. A radler is the same thing as a shandy, however, both ingredients seen here, are very unusual. And speaking of unusual, mixing a 5.3% abv beer with a 0% root beer cannot = a 5.3% abv radler, somebody needs to look over the math. I love rauchbier, and I love root beer, but the two mixed together… I’ll just be nice and say, maybe it’s a case of too much of a good thing. R&R is not good. Dovetail Brewery is still cool. And I have one more beer of theirs, Flanders Rauch, to try before the month is over. Let us hope for a redemption beer. Overall score for this way too sweet, but clearly off radler beer = a generous 3 out of 7 smokestacks.
