Harmony Brewing Company – Black Squirrel Smoked Porter – 5.5 smokestacks

20170729_161620

Erected inside an old sausage factory, the aromas of Harmony might remind you of an old pub in Germany. But, as you may have guessed, Harmony is one of the many places that have opened recently. Established in Grand Rapids, MI in 2012, and expanded in 2015, and again in 2017, Harmony has shown that it is great time to rake in all the profits you can until it all implodes (hopefully not, of course); especially with this beer, Black Squirrel, garnering a solid 5.5 smokestacks out of 7. There was not a consensus at the round table for this one, but the voice of dissension was not from a ministry official. In cases like these, we give them the microphone for one fleeting moment, and then wonder why we would ever think that was a good idea. Regardless of whether or not the voice of intolerance should be tolerated, the word “underwear” was agreed to be included in this review. Smoke on the nose, peat on the palate, squirrel in the name. Solid beer for grownups. Wash down an over sized hamburger with this one, I did.
