Quick story about Six Point, apparently we have some connection to each other. A friend of the Ministry from NYC mentioned a Madison, Wisconsin, connection to us in reference to Sixpoint’s founder/s, while we were in Houston, TX. Time will tell if worlds collide, and then it all blows up. But the real takeaway is that every time I see Sixpoint beers at the store, I stop and take special note of what’s on the shelf, and buy it with much more frequency than most other brands, all because Lauren from NYC tied this beer to a location that I used to live in, perhaps having met before. That’s clever marketing.
The Brunt, however, wasn’t so successful. Although listed as a Grodziskie, which is a lighter, wheat smokebeer, and Polish in origin, we would still expect distinguished notes and flavors indicating such. Not in this case. Very light flavor regardless of what we were looking for. Smoke smell and taste came in as if it were wafting in from a fireplace down the street. Arguments over “sausage, no sausage” ensued and there was only one person taking part in the argument, go figure. I’m still on board with Sixpoint, but have to hold them accountable with this number. Overall smokestack metric = 2.5 smokestacks.

Brewer’s Description | The Brunt is a rotating series of NYC-only beers with a super local connection — each beer is a Red Hook small business collaboration. A take on the old school Polish Grodziskie, this beer is made with 100% oak smoked wheat malt. We teamed up with Hometown Bar-B-Que and smoked malt in their legendary kitchen. The beer’s lighter than you might think — soft, smooth mouthfeel with a smokey start up, and a little citrusy twist. INSANE pairing with authentic BBQ. |
