Starr Hill Brewery – Smoke Out Rauch Beer – 3 Smokestacks

Starr Hill Smoke Out

First thought = Hops? Bitter = Yes. And then I reluctantly acknowledge the smoke (I guess I was just shocked). This beer is like 2 beers in one; One at the top, and one at the bottom. I poured it just right to avoid getting all the silt down in my glass, but whatever elements I got in my glass anyway, still settled down in the glass fast enough to make the experience change while downing this one. And I hate silt. Halfway through, the bitterness is getting overpowered by the sweetness, and the smoke is still coming through, which can often either dissipate or shoot down your taste buds with too much flavor. Starr Hill musta caught The Witchdoctor on a bad night. One extra point for calling it a rauch beer. Overall Happiness: 3 Smokestacks.
